it is raining all day today, a typical seattle weather. after a rain-less summer it feels fresh. we were planning to attend a ground breaking event for the pioneer square development project at the centurylink field north lot, but it was raining.

there are lots of fun working in seattle downtown, there are great restaurant walking in any direction from the office, and they are great food. lots of artworks around the office area also.

electric switches and beyond

the 3-way switches have been out of order for a few weeks, although it does not really bother me as other switches at home are working fine. I attempted to change the switches myself but after taking the switches out, i did not see anything wrong with it. Before the switches went out, the switch in the garage was loose, it does not always stay on when you flip it up. i did not pay attention to it. but when the electrician comes, she started working on the garage switch first. I was wondering why she did not tackle the most important switch inside the home first, just before i had the time to ask, she already get the switch out and point out it was broken, and replaced it with a new one, and after that, the 3-way switch at home just started working! she explained to me that the broken switch is actually causing the 3- way switch to not working as they are on the same wiring unit. that is really simple, i should have replaced the switch in the garage in the first place.

Mao once said, one needs to focus on the primary issue first and this is what i was paying attention to. but sometimes you need to be flexible and find out any possible side issues related to the primary and try to fix them. you can think of this as spend time to fix things that might be related and that is easy to fix. this relates to daily life, that the decision to do or not to do, is dependent on at least two factors, if not more – the first is the priority, the second is the cost. if it is priority with low cost of fixing it, it is no brainer that it is to be handled first, if it is low or medium priority but it is pretty easy to fix, it may be considered to work on first as well. if it is low priority and high cost of fixing it, it will probably end up being taken care of last.

the lesson learnt: dont ignore things that are small, they could end up causing issues you feel important.

6/19/11, father’s day. kevin and chris prepared fathers day gifts to daddy. they are the most wonderful gifts i received. I am a proud dad. It is a priceless experience raising kids and to see they grow from a new born baby to their first walk, first smile, first talk, first song, first dance, first story, first padelling on the bike, first swim… to recieve gifts they so creatively prepared, raising a kid is not easy, but it is a wonderful experience along the way and i feel the kids give me more than i give them. thanks kevin and chris, daddy love you!

Go green stamps

nowadays, go green is a hot topic. companies that have some relationship with green technology will usually receive some special attention. products what have green label will sale well, the anything we do differently we would like to say we are environmental friendly. but green is a trend and it is both beneficial to environment and to individuals.

I bought a new book of stamps that were just published, it is called Go Green, here are a few things displyed in the stamp series:

– buy local produce and reuse bags
– fix water leaks
– share rides
– turn off lights not in use
– choose to walk
– let nature to the work
– recycle more
– ride a bike
– plant trees

8.9 earthquake

it is the highest scaled earthquake recorded in history and it struck japan on friday 3/11. the video showing on cnn is devestating, which coupled with Tsunami after the shock. cars are pushed around by the Tsunami like little toys. building are shaking and people screaming. I remembered being in seattle 6.8 quake 10 years ago, it was only 30 seconds, no structural damages as i heard seattle’s construction standard allow building to withstand 8.8, but this must be no-comparison with the japan 8.9 earthquake.

seattle looks more like spring these days. the late february snow and storm took everyone in surprise, no body took it seriously when it started snowing but it soon proove to be one of the biggest of the year. lots of rains after that, which is also record breaking. hope this is not indication of something abnormal?:-) you cant control everything, do what humanly possibly can, and leave the rest to the nature.

crazy oil price

almost $4 a gallon.. the world is so vulnerable on oil.. these oil rich countries, if they sneeze, we suffer.. and everything is linked to oil.. transportation.. airline… food price will also go up since delivery fee is up, what we do? we can print more currencies, which will futher drag down usd, gees…

remembering those days when the oil is about 99c..

a little cutton snow man

I got a minor accident a week ago and needed to take car to body shop. insurance company did a good job arranging a rental car for me to use while my car is being repaired. when i move my stuff from my car to the rental car, i did not know i accidently dropped a little cutton snow man on the ground. it is the snow man kevin and chris made in Kids co. Their teacher Nancy learned how to make the snow man and taught it in class and every kid gets a chance to make one of their own. i feel it is pretty cute, it is very simple but it is lovable.

after the paper work, when i get ready to drive the rental car to leave the body shop, i saw a mechanic walked toward me and handed me the snow man i dropped in the ground earlier. He is a big guy with a greacy hand and big bear on his face. but he is so careful to pick up a tiny snowman from the ground. i know he must have kids at home and he knows what a snowman means to kids.

this is a great community to be and everyone is doing their share to making it a better place to live.
