it’s been a fews days since i am in shanghai and today i had chance to visit the shanghai expo. it was a rainy day all morning and part of the afternoon, but it turned out a perfect day to visit expo. the weather is perfect, not hot or humid, some breeze, there is freshness in the air.

shanghai expo site is bigger than my wildest imagination. it almost cover 1/4 of shanghai, spans from across the huangpu river. we landed in the puxi side of expo. there are less people today but still easily top 400k people. we visited aurora pavilion, which is the only pavilion without a line. it is about chinese YU. kids had fun playing with water outside and managed to get all wet:-(

we took the shuttle bus to the PUDONG site of the expo, and visited a few pavilion there are no line. the first one i visited is the north korea pavilion, it is quite kids friendly. most of the pavilions have crazy line outside and we did not have time to wait. the waterfront lazer light show is fantastic, the chinese pavilion and the near by expo performing center and activity center display a breath-taking view and archetectual show. we took cruise back to the PUXI site. it is different viewing the expo from the river. during the night, the neon show outside buildings are gorgeous.

Googling and home repair

a few days ago my in sink food disposer stops working. the only think i know how to DIY is to check the restart button at the bottom of the disposer (InSink Erator is the official name). i did that but the disposer still not working. I finally decide to find a contractor to fix it. I started by googling the local plumbing contractor and come across a site that is a forum for the InSink Erator and people are talking about how to fix this thing. i checked a few posts and one of them has a link to the manufacture site that has a chart on how to repair the erator. I tried it and it was that easy. after 5 mins my erator started working. this saves me couple of hundred dollors and the time wasted on finding and waiting and working with the contractor to get this thing fixed.

I do think google (or binging) are changing everyday life but this is a good example of how it affects mine. in the old days if something is wrong and you dont know how to fix it, the obvious option (unless you have an uncle who is a plumber) is to look into a ph0ne book and randomly call people to come and they usually charge $100 just to come out take a look. now, the googling and binging will not only tell you who are the reputable contractors are, it also shows you how other people facing the same issue are doing to fix it. it gives you more options and save you lots of money and time.

this exactly is the two steps i used to fix my InSink Erator. First cut off electricity. then use an allen wrench to find a thread in the bottom at the middle of the erator and turn counter clockwise and back and force a few times to make sure the stuff that blocks the blade are cleared. then put the power back on, press the reset button (the red button at the button of the erator), turn on the erator, it is fixed!

what a game, go yao-min!

it was a great game and Rockets out lasted the lakers in the second round match up. not many people think Rockets will win but it just happened.

100-92!

Yao ming scared every rockets fans with a late game knee knock down by kb. but he came back to the game and scored 8 points in the last few minutes and contribute big to the win.

After the game, kevin and chris all had a good idea about the tall guy with the number 11 on his back and start to chanting, go-yao-yakee-go

The post game interview by Yao ming is pretty fun too:

-Q: Did you think your team is underdog before the game?
-A: I dont know. I just learned that word couple of days ago.

stellers won superbowl XLIII

It was a good game, up and downs, mistake and brillent plays, things change in a split second. the arizona cardinals should have won the game, if they do not blow a gauranteed 3 point field to a interception that resulted in a touch down by the stellers. that is a net 10points difference. but this is the fun of the game, anything can happen, no matter how unlikely it is. superbowl commercials always are a hot topic, and this year the commercials are no exception. several good ones include cocacola, pepsi, godaddy, audi. audi is almost like a 007 movie.

looking forward to the superbowl XLIV, hopefully seattle seahawks will be there.

superbowl XLIII is this sunday

the long awaited superbowl is this sunday Feb 1, 2009. I have been a fan of superbowl for many years and feel it is exciting, and fun to watch, not only the game but the half time show is second to none. even the commercial is fun to watch. it is said this year it runs 3mil for 30 sec, wow!

before i came to usa, i did not like football at all. there were some football shows on tv but i have a hard time to understand why players can get 10 yards in 3 plays. i was thinking of chinese gong-fu that would be easy to go all the way with some tricks, hehe. i started to like the game when i went to the stadium to watch my university team play, and i am one of those crazy fans in the stadium to cheer loudly for every completed pass, every firth down, and for a sack. i like the excitment of the team down 5 points and having 2 min left in the game to make something happen. i like the smartness and accuracy when the quarter throws a deep ball for a touchdown, it is pretty fun.

so it is sunday 2/1/2009 3pm CST for the superbowl XLIII. enjoy the game..
